Strengths
A highly touted high school prospect, Derrick Favors received a ton of attention for his incredible athletic skill and potential. Favors is still considered one of the top prospects in the 2010 Draft due in large part to his upside at the next level. This Atlanta native will fit nicely with a team that implores a fast break style of offense as he quickly streaks down the floor for transition opportunities. Favors' owns a pair of great hands, translating to great touch around the tin and high percentage buckets against college opponents. Highlights from his first year display a solid right hook with a huge wingspan. The mobility and lateral quickness makes Favors a difficult assignment for most defenders in the paint. Weaknesses
It's hard to ignore the immense athleticism from Favors and focus on some of the specific flaws that will have to be corrected next season. Surprisingly, most experts believed Favors would have posted more dominant numbers considering the down year for the ACC Conference. In a half court offense, Favors might struggle to score without a refined post game. He relies on raw talent, which could lead to a significant amount of time to develop and eventually live up to the high expectations. How would he howl?
At this point, there is a logjam at the power forward position in Minneapolis. Favors' offers a different dimension than Kevin Love and Al Jefferson but the Wolves are in need of a defensive minded shot blocker as a complimentary piece not a replacement. One of the most debated topics around the draft will surround the big men. Favors will compete against DeMarcus Cousins and Greg Monroe for top billing at all the pre-draft workouts, which could determine where each post player lands on June 24. "Favors came into the season ranked as the second best prospect in the country. He still may be. However, his production didn't match his potential until late in the season. Some of that fault has to do with his point guards who rarely got him the ball. Some was a lack of aggressiveness on his part. Regardless, he still stands out as a terrific prospect. He's an Amare Stoudemire/Antonio McDyess type of power forward who, once he develops a more polished offensive game, should be a star. Look for him to go somewhere between 2 and 5."Draft Express
