Happy Birthday, Sam Cassell

Today mark Sam Cassell’s 46th birthday.

The guard known as “Sam I Am,” spent just two seasons with the Wolves, but along with Kevin Garnett and Latrell Sprewell, led the Wolves to a 57-win season in 2003-04 which ended with the team’s first-ever Western Conference Finals appearance.

In his two seasons in Minnesota, Cassell averaged 17.2 points, 6.4 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game while being named to his first and only All-Star game in 2003-04.

Minnesota fans will always remember “The Big 3” that led Minnesota to the Western Conference Finals. And they will also remember Cassell’s dance, which may or may not have limited his minutes against the Lakers.

Throughout his career, Cassell averaged 15.7 points, six assists and 3.2 rebounds per game. He also won three NBA championships, his last with Garnett in Boston in 2008.

Cassell was only here for two years, but some of Minnesota’s fondest basketball memories involve him. And his dance has been imitated by pick-up basketball players across the nation.

Happy birthday, Sam.
