Suns to Debut "Back in Black" Retro Jerseys

Posted: Jan. 29, 2013

The Phoenix Suns will be “Back in Black” when they host the Los Angeles Lakers tomorrow night (January 30) at US Airways Center. After being selected as one of seven NBA teams to wear a “Hardwood Classics” uniform this season, the Suns will sport the popular black and orange jerseys worn by the club from 1994 - 2000. Tip-off for tomorrow’s game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

In celebration of the retro jerseys, the Suns are asking fans to support the “Back in Black” initiative by dressing in all black on Wednesday night, creating a “Blackout” at US Airways Center. The Suns will host a total of seven “Back in Black” nights throughout the rest of the season, during which the team will don the retro look. A complete list of the “Back in Black” home games is below.

In honor of the black “Hardwood Classics” debut, the first 10,000 fans in attendance at Wednesday’s Suns-Lakers matchup will receive a complimentary “Back in Black” Suns t-shirt, courtesy of FOX Sports Arizona.

Prior to tip-off, fans will also receive a special opportunity to meet the “Original Sun” and Ring of Honor member, Dick Van Arsdale, who will be on hand to sell and autograph calendars filled with his artwork. Van Arsdale’s signing will take place from 6 - 8 p.m. in the Casino Arizona Pavilion.

In an effort to increase anticipation for Wednesday’s exciting matchup, fans are encouraged to use a special Suns’ “Back in Black” Twitter hash tag: #EclipsetheLakers. A similar hash tag will be used for all “Back in Black” matchups, featuring each opponent’s name. Fans who utilize the hash tag in their Tweets and sign up for the Suns’ “Club Orange,” a social media rewards program, will receive points towards Suns prizes and experiences. To enroll, fans can log on to fans.suns.com.

The black Adidas jerseys will be available for purchase in the Suns’ Team Shop in February. For additional information about the “Hardwood Classics” jersey and “Back in Black” nights, fans can log on to suns.com/retro.
