ARMY: Team of the Month - January 2009

MARCH: SUNNYSLOPE HIGH SCHOOL MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM

RESPECT is treating people as they should be treated.

The Sunnyslope High School Men’s Basketball team has accomplished a lot this season. They could not have done it without the use of the 7 Army Values, Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. They displayed Loyalty to each other, their coaches, their school, and their community. They were always there for each other, no matter the situation, during the long grueling season. The players from Sunnyslope used Duty to fulfill their obligations to the team, themselves, and each other. They always gave max effort during games, practices, as well as the classroom and were always on time and in the right place. They learned to Respect each other, opponents, coaches, and the game. Even in defeat in the most important game of the season they were respectful to the opponent who just handed them a heart breaking loss in the State Championship Game. In displaying Selfless Service, each individual member of the team put forth 110% effort and put it all on the line to achieve one common goal, not only on the court, but in the classroom as well. They displayed Honor by living up to all 7 Army Values. The young men of this team represent their school and communities as well. Their sportsmanship in victory and defeat is how this team displayed Integrity. They set an example for every player in the state of Arizona and across the Nation by doing the right thing at all times, even if nobody is around to see. The last but not least Army Value is Personal Courage. They displayed Personal Courage in this year’s 4A-1 State Tournament and Championship game. This team played until the final buzzer of every game and put their fears and nerves aside all season long. By displaying the 7 Army Values is why this team accomplished so much during the basketball season and why these young men will continue to succeed for the rest of their lives.

By respecting themselves, their opponents and the game of basketball, the Sunnyslope Men's High School Basketball Team represent RESPECT both on and off the basketball court.

FEBRUARY:GLENDALE HIGH SCHOOL GIRL'S BASKETBALL TEAM

LOYALTY means to bear true faith and allegiance to the US Constitution, the Army, your unit, and other soldiers.

The Glendale High School Girl's Basketball Team did an outstanding job displaying the ARMY Values this season. The 7 Army Values are Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. The girls displayed the value of LOYALTY to each other, their coaches and their school by displaying teamwork. They were there for each other to make the plays to score during games and practice. They displayed the value Duty by always being where they were supposed to be when they were supposed to be there. They devoted their time and energy to be the best they could. The girls basketball team also displayed the value of Respect. They always displayed the utmost respect to their teammates, coaches, and opponents. They displayed the value of Selfless Service in that they not only gave 110% to the game but to their classes as well. They demonstrated Honor. They represented their school and set an example for members of their communities. They displayed Integrity while playing against other teams. Their sportsmanship was an example to be followed by every team. And the final Army Value the girl's basketball team displayed was Personal Courage. They never gave up even when they were behind. They were always persistent and played with heart until the final second of the game. For these reasons I feel the Girl's Basketball Team has done an outstanding job of displaying the 7 Army Values.

With their constant displays of dedication to their team, the Glendale High School Girl's Basketball Team display LOYALTY on the court for each and every ballgame.
