2012 NBA Draft Profile: Austin Rivers

AUSTIN RIVERS, DUKE, 6-5, 200 lbs., Shooting guard/Point guard

Last season, Rivers averaged 15.5 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.1 apg, 2.3 tpg and 1.0 spg a game while shooting 43 percent from the floor and 37 percent from behind the arc, becoming only the third freshman in Duke history to lead the team in scoring.

The combo guard was named ACC Freshman of the Year and is the son of Celtics Head Coach Doc Rivers.

Suns Director of Player Personnel John Treloar's Take: I saw Austin all the way back in October at practice and it was obvious that he was a guy that had great confidence in his ability. I followed him during the course of the year and he’s a guy that I would say is a little undersized as a true 2-guard, but he’s got a scoring knack. He has that mentality that he can score on anybody. I considered him a combo guard at Duke and he and the other guard there, (Seth) Curry, played in two-guard tandem there. One would bring it up one time and the other would bring it up the next time. It wasn’t like they had a true point guard. But he has the ability to play both spots in the NBA.
