Sonny Shines in Hometown of Memphis

Sonny Weems may not have taken the court yet since signing with the Phoenix Suns, but he was in a gym earlier this week in his hometown to do some good.

The newest swingman in the Suns’ arsenal returned to the West Memphis high school where he won a state championship to host a free three-day youth basketball camp. His hope is to show those in attendance who came from the same neighborhoods as he did that ‘someone cares’ about them.

“No matter what circumstances they come from, hard work and dedication will get them through anything,” Weems told Memphis’ News Channel 3.

That’s not all, though; Weems has also put his money where his mouth is donating to help refurbish a rundown basketball court in the city so the kids have a place to play year round.

If Sonny proves to be as good on the court as he’s shown he is off it, the Suns and their fans have something to really look forward to.
