Green Doing More Damage in Fewer Minutes

From day one, Suns Head Coach Jeff Hornacek has preached a team-first attitude.

That's especially important on the perimeter, where a minutes-crunch due to talented depth is taking place. Gerald Green is feeling this the most. After averaging 28.4 minutes per contest in 2013-14, his minutes are down to 21.8 mpg this season.

For those of you keeping track, that's a 23.2-percent decrease in playing time.

Less opportunity, however, has not diminished Green's on-court production.

2013-14: 28.4 mpg, 15.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 0.9 spg, 44.5 FG%, 40.0 3FG%

2014-15: 21.8 mpg, 14.5 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 1.0 spg, 43.5 FG%, 38.0 3FG%

The fact that Green's numbers have dropped so little is truly extraordinary. It helps that Hornacek continues to give him the green light, a credit to Green's ability to catch fire and swing a game in a matter of four or five possessions.

His impact, in fact, is even better than last season's. Check out his numbers when averaged out over 36-minute spans.

2013-14 per 36 minutes: 20.0 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.1 spg

2014-15 per 36 minutes: 24.0 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.6 spg

In other words, Green is having a career year despite seeing his minutes greatly reduced for the greater good.

Plus he still finds time to do this kind of stuff:
