Experts Predict Devin Booker's Future with USA Basketball

Team USA reasserted its position as the world's best on Sunday with an emphatic, 96-66 victory over Serbia in the Rio Olympics gold-medal game.

The win marked the Americans' third consecutive title at the Summer Games. The squad hasn't lost a game in Olympic play since 2004 in Athens.

Team USA will look to continue its run of dominance in four years when the flame heads to Tokyo in 2020. The roster could look somewhat similar with Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, Kyrie Irving and others still in their primes. Superstars like LeBron James, Steph Curry and James Harden could throw their names into the hat as well.

And then there's a certain Phoenix Suns player on the rise.

As the media turns the page from Brazil, a few analysts have put together projections for future Team USA squads. Several included Devin Booker, the 19-year-old who averaged 13.8 points, 2.6 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game en route to earning All-Rookie First Team honors last season.

For the record, Booker has been outspoken about his desire to compete in the Olympics. Here's what three writers had to say about the guard's chances to represent his country in 2020 and beyond:

"Of the 12 players on this projected roster, Booker's the biggest reach. Watch out for the Suns wing, though. He's a flamethrower from behind the 3-point line, and he's starting to show a real knack for trying to get in opponents' heads, Kobe-style.

"With a little bit of improvement on the defensive end, he could be one of the best young wings in the game in 2020. And on top of all that, the young man is just an outstanding teammate. He'd be a great fit for Team USA."

"Booker (is) a smooth-shooting teenager who projects nicely as a floor-spacer/playmaker at the two spot for Team USA. The Curry/Booker/(Kawhi) Leonard trio has “ruthlessly efficient” potential.

"Like (Brandon) Ingram, Booker was in Las Vegas for USA Basketball this summer after performing like the best player on the court during his Summer League cameo. If he continues his ahead-of-the-curve developmental arc, the 2015 lottery pick has a chance to be a USAB mainstay."

Aaron Torres of Fox Sports (predicting the 2024 roster):

"Booker will be one of the sage, old veterans of the 2024 squad and, approaching his 28th birthday (then, not now), should be one of the established stars of the league.

"In terms of his game, well, unlike so many other guys on this list, you don’t need me to tell you what Booker is capable of. Just know that by 2024 he should be the go-to scorer on this Team USA squad, as well as someone who can stretch the floor with outside shooting. By the way, who else is excited for the inevitable Booker-Ben Simmons showdown when Team USA plays Australia for the gold?"
