What the Pelicans had to say about 100-92 win over the Magic (1/26/14)

Pelicans Coach Monty Williams

On Anthony Davis’s role in tonight’s victory
“It was a great team win for us. Any win is a good win. We really stress that. But as far as Anthony is concerned, his ability to play on both ends and make plays that sometimes you draw up and a lot of the time it’s just his ability. He played heavy minutes tonight. To come up with 19 rebounds, seven blocked shots, and then buckets down the stretch… A lot of it was (that) his jump shot wasn’t clicking tonight so he was attacking the basket. His ability to finish in traffic and over (the) top of defenders is second to none.”

On whether there’s anything lacking in Davis’s All-Star potential
“No, I don’t. I think if he hasn’t done enough, I don’t know what else you can do. Every night he carries our team. Even when he doesn’t have a great offensive night, he’s there on defense, he’s rebounding, blocking shots. When the moment was there tonight, he took over and that’s what all-stars do. I don’t know what else he can do. I know the coaches pay attention to the guys around the league who play winning basketball and he’s certainly done that. To be able to do it at 20 years old and to improve the way he’s improved says a lot about his ability not only to make the All-Star Team, but he just wants to win and, to me, that’s what all-stars are.”

Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans
On how it feels to be back
“I’m feeling much better. I had a lot of confidence tonight, and it really helped me out.”

On recovering at the third quarter
“Coach talked to us about the third quarter, letting us know we had to build that lead up. We slipped up a little, but we came back and fought. I thought I had to take over and make it to the basket.”

Pelicans forward Anthony Davis
On what was the key to winning tonight’s game
“Defense. We played great defensively. They caught us, but we kept fighting.”

On his 100th career game
“It’s a great feeling to be able to accomplish something like this. I know that I have to keep fighting and keep playing to win for my team.”
