Pelicans to Participate in 2014 NBA Draft Lottery

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Pelicans will participate in the 2014 NBA Draft Lottery tomorrow night, May 20th, to determine where they will pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. The event will be televised on ESPN beginning at 7:00 p.m. CT from Disney/ABC’s Times Square Studios in New York City.

The team will be represented on stage by General Manager Dell Demps.

Heading into the Lottery, the Philadelphia 76ers hold the right to the Pelicans selection (slotted tenth) as a result of last year’s draft night trade in which New Orleans acquired Jrue Holiday and Pierre Jackson, the 42nd overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, in exchange for the Pelicans sixth overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, with whom they selected Kentucky F Nerlens Noel, as well as the Pelicans top-five lottery protected first round selection the 2014 NBA Draft.

New Orleans has a 1.10% chance (11 of 1,000 possibilities) at landing the first selection, a 1.30% chance at drafting second and a 1.58% chance at third. If the Pelicans do not land one of the top three picks in the NBA Draft, Philadelphia would attain New Orleans’ selection falling between pick numbers ten and thirteen. The NBA Draft will be held on Thursday, June 26 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. and broadcast by ESPN at 6 p.m. CT.
