ANTHONY DAVIS NAMED WESTERN CONFERENCE ALL-STARDavis Garners First All-Star Appearance of Career

NEW ORLEANS – The NBA announced today New Orleans Pelicans forward/center Anthony Davis has been named by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to replace injured West All-Star Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2014 NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans. This is his first career appearance as an NBA All-Star.
Davis is the 10th different player in franchise history (19th selection overall) to make the All-Star Team. Davis was also previously selected to the 2014 BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge, marking the second consecutive year he’ll participate in NBA All-Star Weekend after playing in the 2013 BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge in Houston.
Davis is leading the league in blocks at 3.3 per game, while also averaging 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds. This season, he is one of only four players averaging at least 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds. The second-year forward is currently on pace to be the first player since Shaquille O’Neal in 1999-2000 to average 20/10/3 for an entire season.
The 63rd NBA All-Star Game will be played at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 (8 p.m. ET), televised exclusively on TNT and broadcast exclusively on ESPN Radio in the U.S. The All-Star Game will reach fans in more than 215 countries and territories in more than 47 languages.
