Overview

Henry Ellenson was a five-star high school recruit who drew interest from many high-major, decorated college programs such as Duke and Kentucky, but eventually opted to attend Marquette in his home state of Wisconsin, joining his older brother Wally on the Golden Eagles’ roster. Henry was a McDonald’s All-American, marking him early as a potential pro, and ended up spending just one season in the Big East. As a freshman, Ellenson was voted first-team all-conference and the Big East’s top freshman. He’s a skilled big man who’s entering the NBA at a time when frontcourt players who can shoot and space the floor are an increasingly valuable commodity.

NBA Draft Combine Q&A

Ellenson was among the players who spoke to Pelicans.com and other media members at the draft combine in Chicago last month. A portion of the conversation:

What are you hoping teams will learn about you in interviews with them?

What has stood out to you most about your interviews with teams?

What do you think you can bring to the table with your game and skill set?

What areas are you trying to improve?

Post-lottery projections

Where various prominent NBA websites predict he will be picked, along with excerpted comments from the respective mock drafts:

  • NBA.com (ninth to Raptors): “The Raptors have a veteran roster that would allow (a draftee) to develop mostly behind the scenes, and general manager Masai Ujiri is a risk-taker. But Ellenson is a big man who has the mobility to handle an up-tempo system as well as the strength to play physical.”
  • ESPN.com (seventh to Nuggets): “The Nuggets don’t have any obvious needs, which allows them to take the best player available. Ellenson is an interesting fit. His ability to stretch the floor and rebound should be really attractive.”
  • The Vertical (13th to Suns): “After unloading Markieff Morris at the deadline, the Suns are likely in the hunt for a starting power forward and could be attracted to the size, skill and upside of Ellenson.”
  • SI.com (fifth to Timberwolves): “Henry Ellenson’s got the range and skills to be a perfect four next to Karl-Anthony Towns going forward, and as we’ve all seen the Wolves slowly assemble the 2019 Dream Team, power forward is the one hole that hasn’t been filled.”
