Nuggets remain cautious with forward Wilson Chandler

It’s the time of year when the brain has to overrule the body.

Bothered by discomfort in his left hip and groin, Nuggets forward Wilson Chandler has missed Denver’s past five games. With eight games remaining, there is no reason to rush him back and risk further injury.

“If it’s better or him to be out and get whatever attention he needs to get stronger and better, that’s more important,” Denver coach Brian Shaw said. “It’d be different if we were in the (playoff) hunt, but we’re not.

“If he’s able to play and he wants to play at some point before the season is over, we’d welcome that. But if not, I’m not too concerned about him not playing.”

Chandler had hip surgery in April 2012 and played 43 games in 2012-13. He has played 59 games this season, averaging 14 points and 4.8 rebounds. His 120 3-pointers are second on the team to Randy Foye (166).
