Anthony Named Western Conference Player of the Month

DENVER, Dec. 4, 2009 -- Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony was named the Western Conference Player of the Month for October/November, the NBA announced tonight on ESPN’s KIA NBA Shootaround.

Anthony helped lead the Nuggets to a 12-5 record for the month, which was tops in the Northwest Division and tied for the third-best 17-game start in team history.

"I am honored to have been recognized for my contribution to the team so far,” Anthony said. “I'm feeling better than I ever have and I'm excited about what's ahead of us. We've gotten off to a good start, but this is just the beginning for us.”

During October/November, Anthony averaged a league-leading 31.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg and 3.5 apg in 17 games played. He registered 30+ points 11 times and 40+ on three occasions, including a career-high 50 points (17-28 FG, 15-16 FT) to go along with six rebounds and five assists in a 128-125 win over the New York Knicks on Nov. 27 in Denver.

This is the third time in Anthony’s career that he has garnered this award, as he was also named Western Conference Player of the Month in March 2006 and April 2007. He is one of only three players in Nuggets history to have been honored as Player of the Month, with Alex English (three) and Fat Lever (once) being the others.
