Pistons Edge Sixers By Melanie CurtsingerJuly 13, 2012 ORLANDO – The Detroit Pistons won their fourth game in five days, a 71-67 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday at the 2012 AirTran Airways Orlando Pro Summer League. With the loss, the Sixers dropped to 1-4 during summer league action at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla.
Perhaps as a result of playing five games in as many days, both teams shot poorly from the field – the Sixers shot just 36.8 while Detroit knocked in just 38 percent of their field goals. Philadelphia was ultimately undone by their turnovers, as they committed 22 resulting in 24 Detroit points. The Pistons’ Kim English led all scorers in points with 17, while Austin Daye contributed 10 while grabbing 11 boards.
Detroit held a slight advantage heading into the final quarter, 50-49. Philadelphia took a one-point lead early in the quarter and tied the game twice, lastly at the 3:24 mark, but the Pistons responded with six unanswered points. Zack Rosen hit a 3-pointer with less than 30 seconds on the clock to narrow the gap to two, 69-67, but Casper Ware answered with a 12-foot floating jumper in the waning seconds to seal the victory.
Devin Searcy was the lone double figure scorer with the Sixers with 10 points., and he led all players in rebounds with 12.
