ORLANDO -– The Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association (CFHLA) announced Monday that Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins will be awarded the 2013 Charles Andrews Memorial Hospitality Award for Community Leadership.

The award is CFHLA’s highest honor recognizing an individual’s achievements and contributions to the Central Florida hospitality industry as well as the community at large. The award will be presented to Martins during the 2013 CFHLA Hospitality Gala on Dec. 14 at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

Martins was selected as this year’s recipient for his commitment to regional development and diversity, his support of the 2006 community venues initiative and his involvement in local charities.

In addition to his work with the Magic, Martins is also a board member of Visit Orlando where he has supported tourism promotion initiatives and secured the 2012 NBA All-Star Game, which generated more than $95 million in economic impact and helped to shine the spotlight on Orlando. He also serves as CEO of SED Development, LLC, an affiliate of the Magic which is currently planning an entertainment mixed use development across Church Street from the Amway Center.

Martins joins the list of award winners that include Walt Disney of the Walt Disney Co., Tom Ackert of the Orange County Convention Center, Bill David of Universal Orlando and Gary Sain of Visit Orlando, last year’s award winner. Sain was posthumously honored with the 2012 award.
