ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Magic announced that UnitedHealthcare will be the presenting sponsor of all Magic youth basketball programs for 2011. Through this partnership, UnitedHealthcare will help the Orlando Magic promote healthy lifestyle choices to approximately 3,000 children across Central Florida.
The Orlando Magic youth basketball camps and clinics are some of the nation’s premiere basketball youth programs. Coaches from the National Basketball Academy will help camp participants learn the fundamentals of the game while encouraging them to experience the joy of competition.
This year’s summer programs include the new Ryan Anderson and J.J. Redick basketball camps, 15 different week-long day camp options all across Central Florida, the 2011 Orlando Magic overnight basketball camp at Warner University, the new all-girls half-day camp and the 2011 Orlando Magic “mini” camp.
“Getting young people to adopt good habits of diet and exercise will help them live longer, healthier lives,” said David Lewis, president and CEO of UnitedHealthcare’s Employer & Individual business in Florida. “Programs like the Magic’s basketball camps and clinics are aligned with UnitedHealthcare’s commitment to help children understand the role that exercise and nutrition play in their overall, long-term wellness.”
UnitedHealthcare and the Magic will also help raise awareness of the Florida Healthy Kids Program by presenting Florida Healthy Kids Day on July 17. The one-day program will provide Orlando youth an opportunity to learn about healthy living through expert instruction, fun, physical activities and interaction with STUFF the Magic Mascot, Magic Dancers and Community Ambassadors Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw.
The Florida Healthy Kids Program, a part of Florida KidCare, provides low-cost insurance coverage for children ages five through 18. The program’s mission is to ensure access to quality health services for Florida’s children. UnitedHealthcare Florida Community Plan was recently awarded a significant geographic expansion of its service area for the Florida Healthy Kids program for uninsured children. Currently, the Florida Healthy Kids Program operates in 67 counties serving approximately 45,000 children this year.
