ORLANDO – The Magic chose a very strategic method when they traded Dwight Howard in the summer of 2012. Rather than acquire established players with expensive contracts and a limited window to prosper, the Magic initiated a disciplined rebuild plan.
They acquired building blocks and more importantly, flexibility. That same methodology was the purpose behind trading J.J. Redick last season.
Constructing a championship-caliber roster in the NBA is very intricate. And what often causes setbacks and disappointment is a lack of patience and restraint.
No disrespect to other teams around the league, but it’s common for front offices to get desperate and make frantic moves to avoid temporary throbbing.
