Vucevic, 24, has blossomed into the complete package of a center for the surprising Magic because he has the rare combination of size, instincts, basketball IQ and work ethic. And because he’s just in his third NBA season, Vucevic seems to have plenty of room for growth even though he’s starting to fulfill his vast potential by constantly adding something to his game.
Just Wednesday night, the usually mild-mannered Vucevic ventured into uncharted waters when he looked at Magic coach Jacque Vaughn and told him to run a play for him. And when he was in the post, he repeatedly raised his hand and called for the ball. The result was a dominating 30-point, 21-rebound effort that sent his belief in his abilities to new levels.
``I’m pretty confident,’’ candidly admitted Vucevic, who ranked second in the NBA in rebounding last season. ``It has kind of carried over from last year when I had a pretty good season myself. I just want to carry it over to this season. I know I worked on my game a lot and I’ve gotten better, so I just have to keep doing it.’’
