3 of 3 THE COMMON REBUILD QUESTION

Cohen's Analysis: It’s a common debate inside every rebuilding NBA franchise.

Who is part of a team’s foundation and underpinning and who are the valuable assets to try and make further roster amendments?

It will be a discussion that encircles the Magic for the next year or two.

In the past, we have seen how teams have flipped the switch overnight from renovating a roster to establishing championship potential.

In 2007, the Celtics used budding assets, including Al Jefferson and Jeff Green, to net Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.

In 2008, the Lakers used Marc Gasol’s draft rights to acquire his brother, Pau.

In 2011, the Nets used Derrick Favors and a high draft pick (Enes Kanter) to attain Deron Williams. That same year, the Knicks used Danilo Gallinari to complete a deal with the Nuggets for Carmelo Anthony.

Before last season, the Clippers used Eric Gordon, who is still rehabbing his injured knee, to grab Chris Paul.

Orlando has a plethora of young talent. It remains to be seen who is part of the long-term plan and who may be available if a highly valuable player becomes attainable via trade.
