Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of CA

Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of CA

Mission Statement: To provide education and life enhancing programs and services to individuals with sickle cell disease, to broaden public awareness about sickle cell disease, and to promote medical research to ultimately find a cure.

Funding Project: Camp Crescent Moon is the nation’s first week long overnight camp for children ages 7-14 with this chronic illness, Sickle Cell Disease. We are proud to announce that CCM will celebrate its 50th Anniversary this year. Because of medical complications, these special children are not able to attend traditional camps. The daily activities are the same as any other camp, but are tailored to meet the campers’ physical needs. We are staffed by a team of volunteer physicians, nurses, social workers, cabin counselors, and program specialists.

Mission Statement: ESP Education and Learning Institute aims to increase the number of student-athletes from under-resourced communities and schools who attend and graduate college prepared to pursue success in any industry and every profession through an integrated, multi-year academic, leadership, mentoring and personal development “process” that starts in middle-school.
Funding Project:
This grant will support our BOSS™ program, which stands for Business of Success beyond Sports. We start the BOSS™ “process” with a 2-week camp and continue our engagement through school year activities that include mentoring, real world experiences and opportunities for advocacy. The academic component of the camp includes daily science, technology, engineering and math work around a Math Madness competition and team based STEM project work. The leadership and personal development component of the camp includes field trips and guest speaker/staff presentations on topics that include but are not limited to civic responsibility and service, decision science, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, healthy cooking/nutrition, perception versus reality, power and dangers of social media, reputation and brand and STEM applications in sports.
