During the Kings Training Camp in San Diego this past week, DeMarcus Cousins was asked if the 2015-16 NBA MVP was a reachable goal for him.

“Reachable, man?” Cousins responded. “It’s mine to grab.”

Although Boogie has never been short on confidence, Bleacher Report’s Senior NBA Writer Kevin Ding explored the answer further in a recent post.

“In the five previous NBA seasons, Cousins has never gotten even a single fifth-place vote for MVP,” wrote Ding. “But let it be known that this is not the same young big man, and there are already actions to back up the MVP-hype words of the only player in basketball who outright frightens opponents.”

During Steph Curry’s MVP season in 2014-15, his stats were highly comparable to that of the Kings big man. What was lacking in Sactown was the wins, which Cousins knows need to be greatly improved.

“It’s going to take a full team effort,” said Cousins. “I’ll try to play at a high level and bring my team along with me.”

New teammate Rajon Rondo also spoke highly of No. 15, stating, “not to put any pressure on him, but I expect nothing less but MVP.”

It would take a gigantic year from not only DeMarcus but also the Kings to put him in the running but according to Kevin Ding “his production is going to be massive, and if the revamped Kings rise to a playoff berth in the deep Western Conference, it will be an inspirational maturation.”

Cousins a Sleeper Pick for NBA MVP?

Slamson has led his squad to victory in back-to-back summers, taking home his second MVP honors in as many years during the 22nd Annual Mascot Games in Orlando, Fl.

The competition, which takes place at Amway Center, pits mascots from Leagues such as the NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB and NCAA against each other in numerous physical competitions like basketball, dancing and jousting.

Benefitting a charity that provides support to children and families grieving the passing of loved ones and granting wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses, Slamson continues to spread the Kings spirit across the country.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the weekend’s festivities raised more than $300,000 for the charity.

So next time you see Slamson around Sacramento, be sure to give him a hug an congratulate him on the incredible feat!

Slamson Wins Second-Straight MVP at Mascot Games

Over the past couple of days, some of the biggest names in the NBA have raved about DeMarcus Cousins’ abilities on the floor, gushing about his potential and confirming what most of us have known for a while - DMC deserves to be playing on Sunday night in New York.

But on Friday evening, even before the players took the court for practice, two shared their picks for contest winners throughout the weekend festivities.

Making his pick for MVP of the All-Star game, New Orleans center Anthony Davis chose a player he knows well from their Kentucky roots and Team USA experience – DeMarcus Cousins.

Bleacher Report’s senior writer Howard Beck agrees with Davis, stating DMC could wind up with the MVP trophy when all is said and done.

Fans will have to wait to find out, with tip-off slated for 5:30 PM PST in New York's Madison Square Garden. Stay tuned to see if DMC can walk off the court with the MVP award in hand wearing his No. 15 jersey on the 15th of February in 2015!

Averaging a career-high 23 points, 1.4 blocks and 9.7 free throws per game through the team's first seven contests, while leading the team to a 5-2 record, Boogie has backed up the growing offseason national adoration with stellar play on both ends of the floor. 

USA Today's panel of eight NBA experts votes every week during the regular season on the MVP award. The second week produced a new name in their list, DeMarcus Cousins. 

Trailing in MVP votes to only Anthony Davis, Stephen Curry and James Harden, Boogie finds himself in the running with three former Team USA teammates. 

Big Cuz also ranks above the perennial All-Star from Miami, Chris Bosh. 

Although the season is young, the recognition bodes well for the Kings who look to produce their first All-Star selection since the 2003-04 campaign (Brad Miller and Peja Stojakovic).
