Today, the Sacramento Kings, in partnership with 3BALL USA, announced the twelve professional men’s 3x3 teams and the four pools for the Group Stage of the 2nd annual 3x3 International Cup set to take place at Golden 1 Center on Sunday, October 1, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. The FIBA-endorsed competition, upgraded to Quest status this year, will see teams vying for cash prizes and a coveted spot on the FIBA 3x3 World Tour (the highest and most prestigious level of the sport’s professional circuit). Participants will also earn FIBA 3x3 ranking points, which are the key to qualifying for major 3x3 events, including the Olympic Games.

This event is designed for fans of all-ages and free to the public, with tickets required for admission. Complimentary tickets can be claimed now at Kings.com/3x3. Parking will be available for $5 in the DOCO West Garage.&nbsp;

The three international teams that will be visiting Sacramento to compete in this year’s competition include Mexico City, Jamaica, and Jeddah.

Team Mexico City features two of the four players from Mexico’s most recent men’s 3x3 National Team: Jorge Perez and Julio Ruiz. The new additions are Gabriel Gonzalez and Pablo Garcia, who also has experience playing for the Mexico National Team. This is a smart and crafty team with four knockdown shooters.

Team Jamaica is a talented and athletic squad led by Romaine Thomas (#5 ranked player in Jamaica) and 6’11” Kevin Foster (#6 in Jamaica), along with a pair of promising rookies: Marcus Lewis and Marcus Patterson.

Team Jeddah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia includes a diverse group of international players, featuring experienced 3x3 players from France (Dominique Gentil and Kevin Corre), Lithuania (Ovidijus Varanauskas), and the United States (Malik Hluchoweckyj). With a recent head-to-head win over the world’s #1 team (Ub of Serbia), Jeddah comes in as the #2 seed and will be a dangerous matchup for any team they face.

The first 5,000 fans who attend on Sunday will receive a limited-edition trading card featuring former Sacramento King Jimmer Fredette, who will be playing for Team Miami in the tournament. The 3.5” x 2.5” UV glossy card is the first-ever trading card for an American FIBA 3x3 player.&nbsp;

Additionally, one lucky fan will receive a unique card with a couple of visual distinctions to set it apart. The holder of this one-of-a-kind card will be invited to meet Fredette following the tournament. Fredette will sign the card, take photos and give the fan his game-worn jersey from the tournament in addition to an official FIBA 3x3 basketball.&nbsp;

The pool composition and seeding were automatically determined by the teams’ respective FIBA 3x3 ranking. Teams earn their 3x3 ranking points based on participation and performance in high-level FIBA Pro Circuit and FIBA-endorsed events. The top 2 teams from each pool will advance to the Quarterfinals.&nbsp;

FIBA 3x3 is the lightning-fast version of 3-on-3 basketball that will take center stage at the Paris Olympic Games in Summer 2024. Played on a compact halfcourt (36’ by 49’), games are fast-paced with 12-second shot clocks, a live ball after made baskets and end in 10 minutes or when a team reaches 21 points with an emphasis on speed, physicality and non-stop action. Game balls are the size of a women’s basketball, the weight of a men’s basketball and designed with deep grooves suited to the fast-paced game. The Maryland product’s foray into music didn’t end with his memorable cameo in Hootie and the Blowfish’s breakthrough single “Only Wanna Be With You,” in which he laughs at the camera in close-ups and drives to the hoop in his black Kings practice threads.

Nearly a decade later, the forward dropped his own rap album – Insight of a Wizzard – the cover of which appears to have been created with MS Paint. The 20-track opus doesn’t have any readily-available videos online, but an Amazon reviewer definitively states it’s the “best album ever by a basketball player.”

Jimmer was once famously name-dropped in a Lil’ Wayne track, but No. 7 isn’t the established emcee in the Fredette family. That honor belongs to his brother, T.J., who penned “Amazing,” an inspirational ode to the 2011 National Player of the Year’s basketball journey, displaying an abundance of vintage clips and highlights of the BYU standout in the accompanying video.

At the peak of his collegiate stardom, the high-scoring guard was also the subject of Feel Good Music Coalition’s “Teach Me How to Jimmer” – a parody of Cali Swag District’s hit single “Teach Me How to Dougie” – which showcases dozens of fans donning Fredette jerseys and Cougars apparel in the video and includes some of the most incredible lyrics of all time.

Since the early 1990s, dozens of NBA players have crossed over into the hip-hop industry, from releasing their own full-length albums to making cameos in chart-topping rap artists’ music videos.

Most notably, Kings Minority Owner Shaquille O’Neal dropped multiple certified gold and platinum albums – as well as notoriously freestyled on numerous occasions – while Jason Kidd, Cedric Ceballos, Brian Shaw and Dana Barros are among the emcees on 1994's legendary compilation album, "B-Ball’s Best Kept Secret." Last year, a teaser video promoted the forthcoming “Full Court Press Vol. 1” – an apparently real album featuring rap collaborations from the likes of Juwan Howard, Carlos Boozer and Glen "Big Baby" Davis with Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg and T-Pain – but while it promised a fall 2014 release date, the official website only states the highly-anticipated record is 'coming soon.'

Numerous Kings legends – including Chris Webber and Walt Williams – have showcased their rapping prowess in recording studios over the years, while several other Sacramento hip-hop junkies have delved into the genre by making brief music-video appearances.

In the midst of his first season in The River City in 1999, the five-time All-Star released his debut rap album, 2 Much Drama, under the moniker of C. Webb. The 21-track, independent-label record features Kurupt on the top-10 single "Gangsta, Gangsta (How U Do It)” – which is accompanied by an outstanding video loaded with clichéd choreographed dances and shiny suits – as well as a guest appearance from Redman on “Nuttin' ta Do.”

The current TNT and NBA TV analyst also has production and writing credits on several hip-hop songs, including Nas’ 2007 hit single “Surviving the Times.” The Detroit native’s rap aspirations trace back as far as 1994, when during an appearance on BET’s “Rap City,” Webber revealed he was forming his own record label with Naughty by Nature’s DJ Kay Gee.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Sacramento Kings and guard Jimmer Fredette have mutually agreed to a contract buyout, according to Kings General Manager Pete D’Alessandro.

“This was a very tough decision, but we’re confident that the agreement reached today represents the most productive path forward, both for Jimmer and the Kings,” said D’Alessandro. “Echoing a sentiment that everyone who knows him appreciates about Jimmer, he’s a tremendous person and a consummate professional. We thank him for the meaningful contributions he made to the team and in the Sacramento community. On behalf of an entire organization, we wish him nothing but great success in the future.”

Through 41 games, Fredette is averaging 5.9 points (.475 FG%, .493 3pt%, .895 FT%), 1.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 11.3 minutes per game in 41 games off the bench. He has accrued career averages of 7.0 points (.416 FG%, .402 3pt%, .855 FT%), 1.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 15.0 minutes per game in 171 career contests with Sacramento.

Fredette was selected by the Kings as a senior out of BYU with the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.
