Sacramento Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton underwent an MRI in Houston this morning which confirmed a left wrist bone bruise sustained in Thursday’s game versus the Houston Rockets. An update will be provided when the team returns to Sacramento next week.

The 12th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft out of Iowa State, Haliburton is averaging 10.6 points (.529 FG%, .500 3pt%, .875 FT%), 2.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.0 steals, and 26.8 minutes per game through five games (no starts) for the Kings during the 2020-21 season.

The Sacramento Kings released the following statement regarding safety and security measures that will be in effect at Golden 1 Center and Downtown Commons for tonight’s game vs. the Boston Celtics and the Muse concert on Thursday, March 7. 

“Golden 1 Center and Downtown Commons safety and security officials continue to work with local law enforcement agencies and city officials to implement enhanced security measures to ensure the safety of guests.

“The plaza will close in the afternoon and will only re-open to ticketed guests to ensure safe entry into the arena. Ticket checks will be conducted on the perimeter of the plaza and an increased security presence will be on-site to assist ticketed guests. To expedite entry, guests are encouraged to arrive early and have their ticket ready to show staff.

“Once the plaza closes, public access to the following Downtown Commons merchants will be restricted to ticketed guests – Urban Outfitters, Andy’s Candy, Display, Estelle’s Bakery, Fizz, Häagen-Dazs and Pressed Juicery. All other Downtown Commons retailers and restaurants are expected to remain open to the general public.

“We apologize for any inconvenience as we take steps to ensure guests enjoy a safe experience at Golden 1 Center and Downtown Commons.”

Update on Safety and Security Measures at Golden 1 Center and Downtown Commons

Today, the Sacramento Kings unveiled the full roster for the 2018-19 Sacramento Kings Dancers, including honorary team member and local Make-A-Wish® child Yani of Sacramento. Through Make-A-Wish® Northeastern California and Northern Nevada, the Sacramento Kings are able to provide Yani with this unique wish enhancement – supporting her dream of dancing – while she waits for her wish.

“On behalf of the entire organization we’re excited and honored to have Yani join us as a member of the Sacramento Kings Dancers,” said Sacramento Kings Chief Operating Officer Matina Kolokotronis. “Her background as a competitive dancer along with her incredible attitude, resilient spirit and appetite for adventure make her a fantastic addition to this year’s team.”

Yani said “I am so touched and grateful to have this opportunity. The way the Kings Dancers make me feel says a lot about their team and makes me want to be a part of it even more. They make me feel like myself again.”

Yani is a passionate athlete who has spent most of her days on a competitive dance team until her life took an unexpected twist in October of 2017. She fell ill, and her blood pressure reached extraordinarily high levels alongside sudden kidney failure. Yani was hospitalized for 53 days and unfortunately experienced several complications ranging from pneumonia to blood clots and more. Doctors determined that her kidney failure was due to the autoimmune disorder, Lupus, and they began treatment soon after. Despite her unexpected battle, Yani’s condition is improving. She is a strong and resilient young girl who has the loving support from her family and friends.

“Yani is a bright young girl with deep passions and goals,” said Make-A-Wish President and CEO Jennifer Stolo. “We are happy to continue such a strong partnership with the Sacramento Kings to grant wishes and wish enhancements for children who deserve them.”

As a member of the Sacramento Kings Dancers, Yani will join the team throughout the season for select events including team building events, practices and community appearances, while learning more about the world of professional dance. She’ll have an opportunity to join the team for performances on Sacramento’s biggest dance stage -- on-court appearances during Sacramento Kings games.

Yani’s journey as a Sacramento Kings Dancer begins with the launch of the team’s website and dance team profiles. A behind-the-scenes video follows her during the team’s media day following selection.

Wish Kid Yani Selected to Join 2018-19 Sacramento Kings Dancers

Golden 1 Center is more than just an arena. It is also Sacramento’s newest hub for local art and music that embody the city’s culture and diversity.

As part of the team's home opener on Thursday, the Kings will welcome the Sacramento Philharmonic &amp; Opera for a special halftime performance at Golden 1 Center. Julian Dixon, senior director of operations and community partnerships for the company, expressed the orchestra's enthusiasm for the evening's festivities.

“Our musicians are very excited for this opportunity to introduce our music to new ears and faces,” Dixon said. “We pride ourselves in our role to use orchestral and opera music to serve Sacramento and transform our area to fully represent the capital of California.”

The Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera seeks to inspire, lead artistic growth, provide support to musical education and engage Sacramento in celebrating diversity. From classical and opera to The Beatles and David Bowie, the group performs a wide variety of genres for packed audiences at the Sacramento Community Center Theater.
This performance further represents the organization’s ties to the community by embracing local musicians and culture here in Sacramento.

Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera to Perform Home Opener Halftime

James Anderson: Originally selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 20th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, Anderson currently plays for Zalgiris Kaunas of the Lithuanian League. He played college basketball at Oklahoma State University and in 2010 was named Big 12 Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Year and a First Team All-American.

Sim Bhullar: The Canadian native spent majority of last season with the Reno Bighorns, but later made history by becoming the first player of Indian descent to play in the NBA. Bhullar recorded the first points of his career in a game against the Utah Jazz on April 8.

Willie Cauley-Stein: Enters his first season in the NBA after being selected No. 6 by the Sacramento Kings in the 2015 NBA Draft. Hailing from the University of Kentucky, Cauley-Stein earned First Team All-American and Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year, USBWA District IV Player of the Year, SEC Tournament MVP, and First Team All-SEC.

Duje Dukan: Hailing from Wisconsin, the sharp-shooter worked his way into the Badgers rotation as a junior and became a valuable piece of UW’s Final Four team.  Dukan, a Croatia native, spent the summer of 2011 playing with the Croatian National Team in the U-20 European Championships in Bilbao, Spain.

Corey Hawkins: The UC Davis product helped lead his team to a Big West regular season championship and was an Associated Press honorable mention All-American.  Hawkins averaged 20.9 PPG while shooting 49 percent from three.

Ian Hummer: The Princeton standout currently plays for Nilan Bisons Loimaa of Finland.  He was the 2009 The Washington Post Boys basketball Player of the Year for Gonzaga College High School as a senior as well as the 2013 Ivy League Men’s Basketball Player of the Year as a senior for Princeton.

C.J. Leslie: After going undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft, Leslie signed a partially-guaranteed contract with the NY Knicks in 2013.  He then played in the D-League and later transitioned to play overseas.  As a freshman at North Carolina State he was second on the team in points per game, averaging 11 PPG while earning ACC All-Freshmen Team honors.

DeAndre Liggins: Played three years at the University of Kentucky where he spent his first two years coming off of the bench.  His junior year he earned a starting position and declared for the NBA Draft following the season. Liggins was selected 53rd overall by the Orlando Magic.

Shaquielle McKissic: Hailing from Arizona State University, McKissic produced quality numbers during his time in Tempe. McKissic shot 64 percent from the field shooting 7-11 and finished with 16 points against Colorado on January 17.  Later in January, he scored 17 and went a perfect 7-of-7 from the foul line against Oregon State.  A couple days later, he scored a game-high 24 points and added five rebounds against Oregon.

Eric Moreland: The Oregon State forward spent much of last season on the Reno Bighorns, but missed the majority of the year out with a left shoulder labral tear. In the 2014 NBA Summer League, Moreland helped lead the Kings to the Championship.

Alex Oriakhi: Currently playing for Pieno Zvaigzdes of Lithuania, Oriakhi was the starting center for the UCONN 2010-11 NCAA Championship team.  He transferred to the University of Missouri for his senior year and was then selected with the 57th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns.

Juwan Staten: The 6-foot-1 Staten is most well known for appearing on Sportscenter’s Top Ten for a huge posterizing dunk against Virginia Tech.  Staten averaged 14.2 points and 4.6 assists last season for the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Nik Stauskas: The Canadian guard completed his first season with the Sacramento Kings averaging 4.4 points and 1.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 32 percent from long range. The sharpshooting guard from Michigan will look to lead the Kings Summer League team to back-to-back titles.

David Stockton: Hailing from Gonzaga, David Stockton played much of last season for the Reno Bighorns, earning one NBA D-League Player of the Week honor. The rookie guard finished the season with the Kings, recording five points, seven assists and two steals against the Lakers in April.

Julyan Stone: Played college basketball for the University of Texas-El Paso and signed with the Denver Nuggets in December 2011 after going undrafted in the 2011 NBA Draft. Last season, Stone played for Umana Reyer Venezia in Italy where he averaged 7.7 rebounds per game.

David Wear: Made his NBA Debut with the Sacramento Kings last season after spending the majority of the year with the Reno Bighorns.  He played college basketball for the North Carolina Tar Heels and the UCLA Bruins. As a high school athlete, Wear was selected to participate in the 2009 McDonald’s All-American Game and played on the 2008 silver medal winning USA Basketball U18 team at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship tournament.

Slamson has led his squad to victory in back-to-back summers, taking home his second MVP honors in as many years during the 22nd Annual Mascot Games in Orlando, Fl.

The competition, which takes place at Amway Center, pits mascots from Leagues such as the NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB and NCAA against each other in numerous physical competitions like basketball, dancing and jousting.

Benefitting a charity that provides support to children and families grieving the passing of loved ones and granting wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses, Slamson continues to spread the Kings spirit across the country.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the weekend’s festivities raised more than $300,000 for the charity.

So next time you see Slamson around Sacramento, be sure to give him a hug an congratulate him on the incredible feat!
