The 2016 Utah Jazz Summer League came to an end Thursday night as the Jazz fell to the Philadelphia 76ers 86-75 at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.

The Sixers used a strong third quarter to take command, and then back-to-back threes by Christian Wood and Maodo Lo pushed their lead to 14 early in the fourth quarter.

Wood had 17 points and led Philadelphia in scoring for the third straight game.

Ben Simmons started for Philadelphia after missing Tuesday’s game because of leg cramps. The No. 1 overall pick once again struggled with his shot (going 2-for-8 from the field and 2-for-6 from the line for six points) but was a maestro running the offense, racking up six assists on a variety of highlight-worthy passes. 

Utah’s Trey Lyles led all scorers with 23 points. The second-year forward averaged 20.7 points and 10.3 rebounds over the three games this week.

“The guys had great effort throughout the entire week,” Jazz coach Johnnie Bryant said. “That’s all you can ask for as a coach. They went out and competed and played hard, and they’ll continue to get better.” 

Tibor Pleiss drilled two straight threes from the top of the key in the second quarter before throwing down an emphatic two-handed dunk. Pleiss finished with 14 points, six rebounds, one steal and one block in 22 minutes. … Wood averaged 18.7 points for Philadelphia this week. … Richaun Holmes added 17 points, seven rebounds and two blocks for the Sixers. … The Sixers outrebounded the Jazz 47-36.

The Boston Celtics led by 15 points in the first half, fell behind in the fourth quarter, and then finished off their week in Salt Lake City with a dramatic 87-86 win over the San Antonio Spurs Thursday night at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.

Terry Rozier—who led the Celtics with 23 points—drilled a pull-up three (whilst being fouled) with 1.8 seconds left in the game to give Boston the lead. He missed his free throw, but Guerschon Yabusele grabbed the offensive rebound and dribbled out the clock. 

San Antonio’s Kyle Anderson capped off another strong week of summer league play with 23 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and a block. The third-year forward, who was named MVP of the 2015 Samsung Summer League in Las Vegas, averaged 23.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 3.3 steals and 1.3 blocks this week. 

After missing the first two games of the week, No. 29 overall pick Dejounte Murray made his professional debut for the Spurs. The 6-foot-5 point guard out of the University of Washington finished with 21 points and five rebounds in 25 minutes. His athleticism was on full display as he consistently got to the rim and also threw down a one-handed slam off an alley-oop from Anderson.

No. 3 overall pick Jaylen Brown and second-year guard RJ Hunter did not play for the second straight game for the Celtics.

Boston shot it well from 3-point range (10-for-27 compared to 3-for-16 for the Spurs). … Demetrius Jackson (11 points) and James Young (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Celtics. … The Spurs outscored the Celtics 52-34 in the paint, and 19-5 in transition. … Jonathon Simmons scored 13 points for the Spurs. He averaged 22.0 points this week.

The 2016 Utah Jazz Summer League will come to an end when the Jazz take on the Philadelphia 76ers tonight at 7 p.m. at the University of Utah's Jon M. Huntsman Center.

Both the Jazz and Sixers will be looking for their first win of the week.

Second-year forward Trey Lyles is averaging 19.5 points and 11.5 rebounds through two games this week, and has been Utah’s only consistent scorer. He’s gone 4-for-11 (36.4 percent) from 3-point range and 11-for-14 (78.6 percent) from the free-throw line. Second-round draft picks Joel Bolomboy, Marcus Paige and Tyrone Wallace have each logged at least 10 minutes in each of Utah’s two games. Paige leads the group in scoring at 7.0 points per game.

Philadelphia will be led by No. 1 overall pick Ben Simmons, who finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists in his debut Monday night. He left that game late in the fourth quarter with severe leg cramps and did not play on Tuesday against San Antonio. 

Center Christian Wood is averaging 19.5 points through two games this week, while Richaun Holmes and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot are also players to watch for the Sixers.

Jazz to Face #1 Pick Simmons, Sixers

After trailing by nine points early in the fourth quarter, the Utah Jazz rallied to tie the game with four minutes left before eventually falling to the Boston Celtics 89-82 on Tuesday night at Vivint Smart Home Arena.

Trey Lyles had game highs in points (26) and rebounds (11), and the second-year forward showed off a variety of moves—blowing past the smaller Malcolm Miller at the top of the key and then throwing down a two-handed dunk; crossing over, stepping back and hitting nothing but net on a three from the wing; backing down his defender in the post and hitting a turnaround jumper on the block.

Lyles went 8-for-21 from the field (including 1-for-5 from 3-point range) and 9-for-10 from the free-throw line. 

“Last night I felt Trey settled a little bit,” Utah Jazz coach Johnnie Bryant said after the game. “He got to the free-throw line tonight. … He did a great job of continuing to put pressure on the defense and on the referees to get to the free-throw line.” 

James Young led the Celtics with 17 points, and the lefty hit a game-sealing corner three that pushed Boston’s lead to seven with 18.6 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Terry Rozier added 16 points for the Celtics.

No. 3 overall pick Jaylen Brown didn’t play against the Jazz after hyperextending his knee against Philadelphia on Monday. Brown scored 16 points in his debut against the Sixers.

The Celtics are now 2-0 at the Utah Jazz Summer League, while the Jazz fell to 0-2. 

Dionte Christmas scored 14 points and was the only other Jazz player to reach double figures. … The Celtics went 27-for-37 (73.0 percent) from the free-throw line, while the Jazz shot 17-for-21 (81.0 percent). … Guerschon Yabusele (13 points) and Marcus Thornton (10 points) were the other Celtics players to score in double figures. … The Jazz outscored the Celtics 38-28 in the paint.
