Utah Jazz Signs Three Free Agents

Mike Harris, Scott Machado, and Dominic McGuire to join Jazz

SALT LAKE CITY (September 25, 2013) – The Utah Jazz announced today that the team has signed free-agent veterans forward Mike Harris, guard Scott Machado and forward Dominic McGuire. Per team policy, financial terms were not released. All three players will join the Jazz prior to next week’s training camp at Zions Bank Basketball Center. Following the three additions, Utah’s roster now stands at 16 players.

Harris (6-6, 235, Rice) has played portions of three NBA seasons with the Houston Rockets (2007-08, 2009-11) and Washington Wizards (2009-10), owning career averages of 2.9 points and 2.4 rebounds. The 30-year-old spent last season with the Chinese Basketball Association’s Jiangsu Dragons after attending training camp with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The former Rice Owl averaged 26.9 points, 12.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 31 games with the Dragons. Following the conclusion of the CBA season, Harris joined Leones de Ponce of Puerto Rico. Besides playing in the CBA and Puerto Rico, the Hillsboro, TX, native has also spent time in the Ukrainian Super League (2005-06) and NBA Development (2006-07, 2009-10).

Machado (6-1, 205, Iona) split time between the NBA and D-League as a rookie in 2012-13, beginning the season with the Houston Rockets before D-League stints with Rio Grande Valley and Santa Cruz then finishing the season with the Golden State Warriors. Machado appeared in six regular season games with the Rockets, then saw action in five playoff contests with the Golden State Warriors. He also appeared in 28 D-League contests between Rio Grande Valley and Santa Cruz, averaging 8.9 points and 5.1 assists per game, earning NBA D-League All-Rookie First Team honors. The Queens, New York, native averaged 12.2 points, 6.7 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 132 games over four seasons at Iona (2008-12), finishing his collegiate career as the Gaels' career leader in assists (880) and ranking 17th in NCAA history. He led the nation in assists as a senior in 2011-12 with 9.9 assists per game.

McGuire (6-9, 235, Fresno State) has appeared in 342 career NBA games (84 starts) over six seasons between Washington, Sacramento, Charlotte, Golden State, Toronto, New Orleans, and most recently, Indiana. He holds career averages of 2.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 15.6 minutes. McGuire appeared in a combined 26 games (10 starts) with Toronto, New Orleans and Indiana during the 2012-13 season, averaging 2.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 14.9 minutes. Previously, he spent the 2011-12 season with the Golden State Warriors, appearing in 64 games and averaging 3.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 17.6 minutes per contest. McGuire was originally selected by the Washington Wizards in the second round (47th overall) of the 2007 Draft.
