Marvin Williams to Undergo Surgery

SALT LAKE CITY (May 31, 2013) –Following several medical consultations, Jazz forward Marvin Williams has elected to have surgery to repair his sore right heel/Achilles tendon. The procedure will be performed on Monday, June 3 in Charlotte, N.C., by Dr. Robert Anderson, and Jazz assistant trainer Brian Zettler will accompany Williams.

The expected recovery time following surgery is approximately six months.

Williams (6-9, 245, North Carolina) appeared in 73 games (51 starts) for the Jazz in 2012-13, averaging 7.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 23.7 minutes per game. The 26-year-old Jazzman scored in double figures 22 times, including two games with 20-plus points, during his first season in Utah.

Originally selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the first round (second overall selection) of the 2005 NBA Draft, Williams has appeared in 560 career games (430 starts) and owns averages of 11.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.3 assist in 29.6 minutes. He was acquired by the Jazz in a trade with the Hawks in exchange for guard Devin Harris on July 11, 2012.
