The following is a medical update on Utah Jazz forward/center Derrick Favors:
Derrick Favors was examined Wednesday and underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) testing, which confirmed a bone contusion on his left knee. He will continue to receive treatment, and in order to allow the injury proper time to heal, will not play Thursday vs. Chicago and his status will continue to be reevaluated moving forward. Further updates will be provided when appropriate.
Now in his seventh season with the Jazz, Favors (6-10, 265, Georgia Tech) owns career averages of 11.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 1.4 blocks in 26.0 minutes over 440 career games (259 starts), and currently ranks sixth on the Jazz all-time list for blocked shots (555) and 11th for rebounding (2906). One of only three players in Jazz franchise history to increase his scoring average in each of his first six seasons with the team (current teammate Gordon Hayward and John Stockton are the others), Favors is also just the second Jazzman to ever average at least 16.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in consecutive seasons (Al Jefferson). The 25-year-old Atlanta native has appeared in 11 games (nine starts) this season and is averaging 10.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.0 block in 24.0 minutes.
