Spencer Checketts to join drive-time show on The Sports Leader

SALT LAKE CITY (February 2, 2012)1320 KFAN (KFNZ), which already features both the television and radio voices of the Utah Jazz (Craig Bolerjack and David Locke), the highest-rated sports radio show in the market (David James and Patrick Kinahan) and the talents of Scott Garrard, Ben Bagley and Tony Parks, announced today the addition of Spencer Checketts to the sports radio station’s highly-popular lineup.

Beginning February 7, Checketts will host 1320 KFAN’s afternoon drive-time along with Garrard, broadcasting live Monday through Friday from 3-7 p.m. Bolerjack and Locke will continue to serve as Jazz insiders, covering the team both at home and on the road, and will join the show prior to every Jazz game.

Fans will still get their “Fab 5 at 5” fix each day throughout the Jazz season, featuring weekly appearances by Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor each Monday, a Jazz coach every Tuesday, Jazz president Randy Rigby on Wednesdays, a Jazz player on Thursdays and a member of the Jazz broadcast team each Friday.

The duo of James and Kinahan, better known as “DJ & PK,” will continue to take to the airwaves each weekday morning from 6-10 a.m. on 1320 KFAN, as the pair closes in on a decade working together on radio in Salt Lake City. The nationally syndicated “Jim Rome Show” follows “DJ & PK” from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. before Ben Bagley and Tony Parks take over the microphone from 1-3 p.m. daily.

“We are very pleased to welcome Spencer to the KFAN family,” said Chris Baum, general manager of 1320 KFAN and senior vice president of broadcasting for the Utah Jazz. “With ‘DJ & PK’ anchoring the mornings, Spence Checketts and Scotty G. in the afternoons, along with our Jazz insiders Craig Bolerjack and David Locke, there really is no doubt that 1320 KFAN is ‘The Sports Leader’ in the market.”

In addition to hosting the afternoon show on 1320 KFAN, Checketts will also co-host the pregame, halftime and postgame radio shows alongside Garrard and former Jazz coaches Tom Nissalke and Phil Johnson on the Jazz Radio Network.

Checketts, who is a former regional scout for the New York Knicks, had spent the past five years co-hosting a highly-rated drive-time show on KALL, where he also anchored the station’s game-day coverage of Real Salt Lake and University of Utah basketball games. Checketts also serves as a sports columnist for KSL.com.
