Jazz Inspire Youth to be “Best. Self. Ever.”

SALT LAKE CITY (January 20, 2016) – The Utah Jazz and the Deseret News’ Newspapers in Education program are teaming up on a Classroom Connections publication to provide more than 400,000 local youth and families with valuable health and wellness information, provided by University of Utah Health Care. The special section titled “Be your Best. Self. Ever.” will be distributed to nearly 300 local schools and will be available online and within the Deseret News print edition on Friday, Jan. 22.

The 12-page pull-out begins with a greeting from Jazz Bear explaining to children the steps they can take to become the best version of themselves. The issue also includes health and fitness tips from Jazz players, as well as in-depth information on how children can be more active, sleep better, eat healthier and be drug and alcohol free. The front cover features an action shot of Gordon Hayward dribbling on the home court of Vivint Smart Home Arena.

“We are proud to partner with the Jazz in this effort to encourage the youth of our community to be their best,” said Paul Edwards, editor of the Deseret News. “Utahns love their home team, and we appreciate how much this team gives back to the community.”

As part of a shared commitment to education, the Jazz and the Deseret News have collaborated on the Newspapers in Education program for nearly 20 years. Past sections have focused on other important social issues affecting youth, including bullying, fitness, child safety and drug use prevention.
