Jazz Bear to Participate in 12th Annual Mascot Bowl

LEHI, Utah (September 23, 2015) – The 12th annual Mascot Bowl, a charity football game that benefits “Bear Hugs for Kids” and “Firemen and Friends for Kids,” will take place on Monday, Sept. 28 at 5 p.m. at Lehi High School. Jazz Bear will again join the all-star mascot team for an action-filled night, alongside this year’s celebrity quarterback Danny Southwick (LA Kiss quarterback and Provo native).

Tickets are $3 (children 2 and under are free) and can be purchased in advance at the Lehi High School financial office or at the gate on Monday night. Lehi High School is located at 180 North 500 East in Lehi, just west of I-15.

The event, presented by Lehi High School Sports Marketing and Mountain Crane, will begin with a mascot and celebrity autograph session, including Derrick Para (Olympic gold medalist speed skater), Reno Mahe (former BYU and NFL running back), and Aaron Lesue (arena football player and former Utah State University wide receiver). The all-star mascot team, which will feature local and professional sports team mascots, will take on the Lehi eighth-grade football team. A fireworks show will take place at the conclusion of the game.

This year’s roster includes: “Bear” and “Lil’ Bear” (Utah Jazz), “Burnie” (Miami Heat), “Rocky” (Denver Nuggets), “Bango” (Milwaukee Bucks), “Gorilla” (Phoenix Suns), “Boomer” (Indiana Pacers), “Miles” (Denver Broncos), “Freddie” (Atlanta Falcons), “Rowdy (Dallas Cowboys), “Rampage” (St. Louis Rams), “Bumble” (Salt Lake Bees), “Grizzbee” (Utah Grizzlies), “Felix” (Utah Falconz), “Rocky” (Rocky Mountain Raceway), “Swoop” (University of Utah), “Cosmo” (BYU), “Willy” (Utah Valley University), “Big Blue” (Utah State University), “Waldo” (Weber State University), “Thor” (Southern Utah University), and “Pioneer Pete” (Lehi High School).

The event benefits “Bear Hugs for Kids” and “Firemen and Friends for Kids,” both of which provide holiday shopping sprees for local children in need, and is planned and executed by the Lehi High School Sports Marketing students under the direction of Becky White.

The night will also include performances by the America First Jazz Dancers, Utah Jazz Stunt team, Utah Jazz Dunk team, Lehi High School varsity and 8th grade cheers teams, and a special half time show by country star Charley Jenkins. There will be food, prizes, giveaways, contests, and activities for the entire family.

In addition to the game, Lesue will attempt to set a world record by catching a football dropped from 400 feet in the air. During the 2012 Mascot Bowl, Lesue caught a football tossed 365 feet from a crane above the football field and broke the previous record of 336 feet. In June, NFL star Antonio Brown, in conjunction with ESPN Sports Science, caught a football dropped from a drone 360 feet in the air claiming his catch set the world record. This year’s Mascot Bowl will determine who holds the world record.
