Trailing Portland 3-1 in the second round of the playoffs, the Jazz were able to fight back in the series with an 88-71 victory at home. The #3-seed Jazz were led by Karl Malone's 23 points and eight rebounds, Bryon Russell's 22 points and nine rebounds as well as John Stockton's 14 assists. The Jazz led from wire-to-wire and shot an efficient 50% from the field and 62% from downtown. The #2-seed Blazers were outmatched on the backboards by a mark of 31-45 and shot a low 34% from the field. After a close and physical series, the Blazers would eventually advance to the next round in six games.
