Game Rewind: Pacers 107, 76ers 94

Game Recap

The Indiana Pacers are back in the win column. Indiana (37-36) snapped a two-game skid with a 107-94 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers (27-46) on Sunday evening at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

With the win, the Pacers moved back into a tie for fifth place in the Eastern Conference with Atlanta and Milwaukee, both of whom lost earlier in the day.

Seven players scored in double figures in the victory. All-Star forward Paul George led the way with 21 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Myles Turner tallied 17 points and 16 rebounds to record his 12th double-double of the season, while Jeff Teague added 16 points and four assists.

"We were in attack mode," Teague said. "I think everybody came out just being aggressive. When we play like that, we're a good team."

The Sixers had a 13-7 lead in the opening minutes of Sunday's contest, but the Pacers dominated the latter half of the first quarter. Indiana outscored Philadelphia 20-5 over the rest of the frame, including a 10-0 run to close the quarter.

Teague got off to a good start for his hometown team, knocking down a couple early 3-pointers. George played the entire first quarter, racking up eight points, five rebounds, and two assists over the opening 12 minutes.

Philadelphia fought back to tie the game on two occasions in the second quarter before the Pacers again put together a strong close. Indiana finished the half on an 8-2 run to take a 51-45 lead into the break.

The Blue & Gold really started to seize control of the game early in the third quarter with a 12-0 run that featured a four-point play by Teague and pushed the margin to 18. Teague and George combined for 17 points in the frame as Indiana took an 81-69 lead into the fourth quarter.

"We were getting stops (in the first half), but we weren't scoring," George said. "Then we eventually started scoring, started getting into a rhythm offensively. The ball movement started to flow and that's when the game got put away."

The fourth quarter didn't feature much drama, as the Pacers maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way. It did, however, feature a couple unfortunate injuries.

Veteran center Al Jefferson landed awkwardly on his left ankle while collecting an offensive rebound with 9:42 to play. The 13-year veteran appeared in extreme pain and remained down for multiple minutes before leaving the floor in a wheelchair and was later diagnosed with a sprained left ankle.

Jefferson — who had 14 points off the bench on 6-of-9 shooting before the injury — said that x-rays came back negative.

"Anybody knows when they roll their ankle like that, that's instant pain, throbbing pain," Jefferson said. "It just takes a minute for (the pain) to go down, but everything seems normal."

A few minutes later, combo guard Rodney Stuckey came up limping after a layup attempt. The Pacers quickly called a timeout and subbed him out. He also did not return.

Those injuries were the only sour notes on an otherwise all-around positive night for the Pacers. C.J. Miles, Aaron Brooks, and Monta Ellis all scored 10 points apiece for Indiana in the much-needed victory.

Sergio Rodriguez led Philadelphia with 16 points in the loss. Rookie center Shawn Long recorded his first career double-double, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Richaun Holmes also had a double-double, collecting 11 points and 12 boards.

The Pacers close out a three-game homestand by hosting Minnesota on Tuesday night, then embark on a challenging three-game road trip that includes visits to Memphis, Milwaukee, and Cleveland.

Inside the Numbers

The Pacers held Philadelphia to 39.8 percent shooting on the night, the ninth time this season they have held an opponent under 40 percent (they're 8-1 in such games).

Sunday's game was just the second time this year that the Pacers have had seven players score in double figures. They've had six or more players score 10-plus points on 21 occasions and are 16-5 in those games.

Turner's 12 double-doubles are the second-most on the team, behind only Teague, who has 14.

Jefferson's 14 points were his most in a game since he had 20 against the Lakers on Jan. 20 in Los Angeles.

76ers forward Dario Šarić, one of the leading candidates for Rookie of the Year, had nine points and 10 rebounds but went just 3-for-15 from the field.

You Can Quote Me On That

"We came out with some energy. Defensively, we got after it, just tried to make it tough on them. That's a scrappy group they have over there. They play hard and they never want to go away. We did a good job tonight of putting them away." -Teague on the second half

"My offense has been a little off lately. I was just talking to my dad before the game and he said, 'Man, just go out there and do all the little things tonight — rebounding, blocking shots, being in the right position.' So that was what I wanted to go out there and focus on, let the rest take care of itself." -Turner on his 16 rebounds

"We talk about rebounding the ball every game. I think Myles was a little upset with how we played last game. He made the effort to go after boards tonight." -Pacers head coach Nate McMillan

"They show why they're (tied for) the fifth team in the East and about to go on to play in a serious time in the season. I think defensively they were really good. I feel like that’s where we felt them the most." -76ers head coach Brett Brown

"It was good that I had a double-double but at the end of the day, like all the guys in this locker room, we want to win the game, and tonight we didn't get it. Individually, I can use this it to build for the next game, but as a whole we need to play better and I'm sure our coaches will get us ready for the next game." -Long

Stat of the Night
