Game Rewind: Pacers 76, Heat 92 (Summer League)

ORLANDO -- There was bad and good as The Indiana Pacers opened play in the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League here at the Amway Center.

The bad was the outcome as the Pacers lost to the Miami Heat, 92-76. Frequent fouling (the Heat were 25-32 from the line) and turnovers (25 leading to 32 Heat points) led to an obvious outcome as the Pacers led only once at 2-0 and trailed by as many as 26.

The good was top draft pick Myles Turner. The 6-11 center led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting with eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

"The one bright spot," said Pacers assistant coach Dan Burke, who is coaching the summer league team. "He looks confident, he looks like he belongs. I know it's summer league but he had a helluva first day. And he'll get better."

Said Turner, "Before the game, I was nervous because it was my first taste of professional basketball, but I felt good and it was good to get the jitters out, but we didn't win and that's the bottom line."

Jarell Eddie added 16 points and Trent Lockett added 10 off the bench. Pacers veterans Solomon Hill and Shayne Whittington had tough days. Hill was 1-for-10 from the floor and had four points, Whittington was 3-for-8 for eight points and had six rebounds.

"Turnovers, loose balls, every rebound on the ground they got," said Burke. "This wasn't Pacers' basketball. They were the aggressors and we weren't."

The Pacers will practice Sunday and return to play Monday at 1 p.m. against one of Orlando's two teams here, the White team. The Pacers' second-round pick Joe Young is expected for that game missing two days of camp and Saturday's game with illness.
