Injury Report: Russell Questionable, Zubac Doubtful

D'Angelo Russell is considered questionable for Sunday's game against Chicago due to a sore left knee.

The injury caused the Lakers' starting point guard to sit out of Friday's loss to San Antonio and Saturday's practice.

“His knee has been bothering him (but) he’s been playing through it,” head coach Luke Walton said. “It started hurting more, so they decided last night when he got to the arena to shut him down.”

While Walton joked with Russell that the team didn't commit as many turnovers with him out of the lineup, the loss of Los Angeles' leading scorer was certainly felt in the 116-107 defeat.

The Lakers will not have shootaround on Sunday morning, so Russell's availability will be determined closer to tip-off.

Jose Calderon started in his place and tallied five points and three assists in 13 minutes.

The Lakers will also likely be without reserve center Ivica Zubac on Sunday, as the rookie is considered doubtful due to an ankle injury.

However, they do plan to have the services of Nick Young, who scored a season-high 22 points against the Spurs despite playing sick with a head cold.

According to Young, Walton and associate head coach Brian Shaw got him ready to play San Antonio by comparing his situation to Michael Jordan's legendary flu game in Game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals.

“They kept trying to hype me up, talking about (how) Jordan played with the flu and all that before the game,” Young said.
