NYK 104, SAS 100: Knicks Snatch Victory from Defending Champs

How it Happened

The Knicks returned home from a five-game road trip to face the defending-champion Spurs on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden. With injuries piling up and seven days of travel to and from the west coast, the odds were stacked against New York.

But Derek Fisher's squad refused to quit, battling back from a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat San Antonio, 104-100, in an overtime thriller.

Led by the backcourt of Langston Galloway and Alexey Shved that combined for 43 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds, the Knicks kept attacking and managed to tie he game early in the 4th quarter. The two teams battled back and forth -- Marco Belinelli gave San Antonio a 96-94 lead with 24 seconds to play, but Lou Amundson tied it with a tough layup in the final seconds and the Knicks forced overtime with a key defensive stop.

In the extra frame, New York buckled down and won it at the stripe, sinking six free throws and securing the victory on the boards.

Knick of the Night

Galloway's big third quarter -- including 11 of his game-high 22 points -- helped turn the tide and his defense on Tony Parker was strong all night.

Game Notes

Tim Hardaway Jr. (wrist) and Cleanthony Early (ankle) did not dress for the game. Amundson's 17 rebounds were a career high.

Next Up

The Knicks have a day to rest before taking on Rookie of the Year contender Andrew Wiggins and the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday at the Garden.
