Knicks Camp Report: Amar'e's Red Wine Bath, Injury Updates, & Rotation Talk

Amar’e’s Red Wine BathAmar’e Stoudemire tweeted an Instagram picture of himself in a red wine bath yesterday, which caused quite a stir on social media.  After Thursday’s practice, Stoudemire explained the reasons behind the unorthodox treatment.

“The red wine bath is very important for me because it creates more circulation of my red blood cells plus it’s very hot, so it’s like a bath, hot tub, but it’s also the red wine just kind of soothes the body, which follows up with a 90-minute massage,” Stoudemire described.

The big man has dealt with an assortment of debilitating injuries in the past, most recently his back and knees.  Looking outside of the box, Stoudemire believes this 30-40-minute soak in a mixture of red wine and water in an ancient tub is a solid recovery option.  He first heard about the red wine bath from his wife and the former All-Star has not attempted a white wine bath yet…

Injury UpdateAndrea Bargnani continues to recover from a strained hamstring and was limited in today’s practice session.  J.R. Smith received treatment for back spasms yesterday at MSG Training Center and early today prior to practice.  Head coach Derek Fisher told the media Smith was able to finish with the team after a lengthy practice that lasted over three hours.

Break In The ScheduleFisher expressed his excitement for the four-day gap between games for the Knicks to hit the practice floor prior to Monday’s home tilt against Milwaukee.  On Tuesday night, New York finished its third game in four nights and will look to take advantage of the time at home to work on both sides of the ball with the season opener just 13 days away.

“This is a great opportunity for us for sure to improve and get better,” Fisher stated.  “We looked at our preseason schedule in the month of October and we had kind of a West Point segment and another segment between getting back from West Point and October 15th, and now begins another segment that we have some space to get better and got some really good work in today and we’ll come back at it tomorrow.”

A Look At The Final Rotation? Fisher has used several different lineups throughout the preseason in an attempt to discover the cohesive units prior to the contest against Chicago on October 29.  While the starters have remained fairly consistent with Jose Calderon, Iman Shupert, Carmelo Anthony, Quincy Acy, and Samuel Dalembert as the first five, Fisher could make adjustments that lead to the solidified rotation heading into the season opener.

“Not a hard date but I think for sure as we get into next week with having games Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, trying to get closer to that, at least by Wednesday’s game and maybe having two games where we get a chance to see ourselves the way we want to see our group come opening night.  Obviously, that is subject to change based on availability.”
