SACRAMENTO, CALIF., Nov. 3, 2011 -- The Sacramento Kings are providing fans an opportunity to showcase their basketball talents during a pair of upcoming competitions as part of the team’s “Fan Appreciation Series.”

Online registration for the first-ever Kings 3-on-3 Tournament and H.O.R.S.E. Challenge reached maximum capacity in only two days, signaling the community’s lasting passion for basketball and the Kings powerful connection to the game. More than 64 teams totaling 320 players entered the March Madness style, single-elimination event, all vying for bragging rights, a championship trophy and Box Seats to a future Kings home game. All contests will be officiated by an NCAA-certified basketball referee. Games are scheduled to tipoff at Power Balance Pavilion on Saturday, Nov. 5 beginning at 9 a.m.

Former Kings great, current Regional Scout and Player Development Coach and self-proclaimed 3-on-3 expert Bobby Jackson offered this advice to fans entered in the tournament: “Don’t let the bright lights or the big court scare you. You better come ready to play.”

Only sharpshooters applied to the inaugural Kings H.O.R.S.E Challenge taking place at Power Balance Pavilion on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. This version of the time-honored hoops competition will pit 45 shooters head-to-head for a once in a lifetime “shot” to battle Kings Head Coach Paul Westphal for the coveted H.O.R.S.E Challenge Title and tickets to a future Kings game.

Acknowledged during his playing days as a versatile guard capable of scoring with both hands, Westphal issued a suggestion to fans considering a run at his unblemished lifetime H.O.R.S.E. record: “I welcome any challengers, but they better practice and come equipped with an ability to shoot accurate left-handed shots. If they miss from inside 15 feet, they’re in trouble.”

Registration was free for each event and parking for participants, guests and spectators is also complimentary. Visit Kings.com for more information about future events associated with the Kings “Fan Appreciation Series.”
