Sacramento Kings and Kaiser Permanente Team Up to Build New Basketball Courts in the Mack Road Valley Hi Community

Sacramento, Calif. – Today, the Sacramento Kings, Sacramento Kings Foundation and Kaiser Permanente dedicated two new basketball courts in South Sacramento to strengthen community pride by encouraging healthy lifestyles. The courts were dedicated during #NBACares week with Kings players, coaches and dancers. Attendees participated in basketball competitions with Kings players, received complimentary merchandise and home game tickets, and watched the team shoot around.

“These basketball courts are more than just a place to play – they represent the Kings and Kaiser Permanente’s commitment to promoting healthy and active lifestyles,” said Kings President Chris Granger. “As proud members of this community, we have a vested interest in improving Sacramento’s quality of life. Under Vivek Ranadivé’s NBA 3.0 philosophy, we’re dedicated to making meaningful impacts in neighborhoods throughout the Sacramento region.”

Benefitting the Mack Road Partnership, the two regulation-size basketball courts are located at St. Andrew Lutheran Church at 7839 Center Parkway. The all-purple courts feature a Kings center court logo and Kaiser Permanente logos. The Good Tidings Foundation, a nonprofit organization that has built over 100 projects to enrich the lives of deserving youth over the past 20 years, erected the court.

"Kaiser Permanente's mission is to help improve the health of the communities we serve,” said Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Senior Vice President and Area Manager Patricia Rodriguez. “Our hope is that these courts -- and this community center -- will be places where young and not-so-young alike can come together to play, to build community, and to foster a love for living a healthy, active lifestyle for years to come. We are proud to join the Kings to make that happen."

The Mack Road Partnership is a Property-based Business Improvement District (PIBD) established in 2010 and focused on safety/security, economic development, marketing, advocacy and beautification projects. Recently, the Mack Road Partnership launched a newly remodeled community center to host a variety of classes, farmer’s market, sports activities, free meal program and a place for positive interactions with local law enforcement.

“The Kings and Kaiser Permanente’s investment in the community will make significant differences in the lives of Sacramentans,” said Mack Road Partnership Executive Director Jenna Abbott. “We are grateful for their leadership in better connecting neighbors and helping develop the Mack Road Valley Hi Community into a vibrant, active place for all community members.”
