Remembering Rex Hughes

Longtime collegiate and professional basketball coach Rex Hughes passed away Monday at the age of 77.

The Kings former assistant and interim head coach spent the 1991-92 season with the team, also serving as an assistant with the San Antonio Spurs and Vancouver Grizzlies. Hughes began coaching in the early 1960’s at North Torrance High School in California, later spending time as an assistant at USC and UNLV in addition to several seasons as head coach of Kent State from ’74-’78.

Kings.com caught up with Kings TV Color Analyst Jerry Reynolds to get insight on the late coach, who he considered a good friend.

“I really liked Rex," said Jerry. “He was a really good coach and a better person. I really enjoyed Rex’s time here.
