Labissiere Stands Out in Summer League

After 11 combined points in the team’s opening two games, Skal Labissiere found his touch in Sacramento’s remaining Summer League matchups, totaling 44 points in three contests.

Labissiere began his tear versus the New Orleans Pelicans, displaying his shooting touch with a 2-of-3 performance from beyond the arc.

The 6-foot-11 forward-center hadn’t recorded a three in his collegiate career, but displayed a smooth shooting stroke throughout Summer League, drilling midrange shots while finishing his Vegas tilts 3-of-4 from three-point range.

The Kentucky product displayed equally impressive abilities on the defensive end during the team’s matchup versus the Atlanta Hawks. Despite attempting just six shots from the field, No. 3 impacted the defensive end of the court immensely, tallying three blocks and a steal in 23 minutes of play. Labissiere’s knack for verticality while contesting shots allowed him to deter shots in the paint, a skill that is essential for NBA rim protectors.

In the team’s final game versus the San Antonio Spurs, Skal put on an offensive showcase – shooting an efficient 8-of-11 from the field on an array of turnaround jumpers, hook shots and finishes in traffic. When double teamed, the Haitian native was able to either finish, make the right pass or dribble out.

Labissiere’s understanding of the game and abilities on the court throughout Summer League earned the praise of many, including Kings assistant coach Bryan Gates.

“I’m really excited about Skal’s future,” said Gates. “It wasn’t just today, it was watching him. When you go through an NBA season you don’t get to watch a lot of college games. I hadn’t seen Kentucky play…. Just seeing him, it’s been cool. I think he has a good future.”
