Kings Podcast: Jon Barry

In the late ‘90s the Kings utilized a faced-paced offense fueled by the what was then known as the original “bench mob.” Comprised of five reserves, whose main responsibility was to bring passion, heart and hustle, the bench mob was adored by fans.

Members brought their own eccentricities; Jon Barry, who joined the team in 1999, was the unquestioned leader of the group − a true sparkplug off the pine. Scot Pollard was known for his facial hair and strong interior play. Derrick Martin was an instant scorer, and Lawrence Funderburke and Tony Delk brought defensive toughness and hustle.

Although he only spent three seasons in Sacramento, Barry is still remembered for his contributions, energy and his ability to ignite a crowd when the Kings needed it most. We caught up with Barry recently at the Kings Foundation Golf Invitational and he dished on his finest memories, Peja’s jersey retirement and more.
