Coach Joerger Shares Expectations for Future

Wrapping up his first season with Sacramento, Kings head coach Dave Joerger is looking to build a playoff-caliber team in the coming seasons.

After his stint in Memphis, where the Grizzlies saw the playoffs for three-consecutive seasons, Joerger found himself in unfamiliar territory this year.

However, in a recent interview with Sirius XM NBA Radio, the team’s head coach mentioned excitement for his young team with a goal to see the postseason and beyond.

“It’s different. It’s been a great learning experience for me and it’s going to be an interesting process” said Joerger. “Three years from now, we hope to be in the playoffs.”

Joerger then went on to discuss the general game plan to help propel his team back into postseason contention.

“In this situation [compared to Memhpis], it’s a higher pick. Now free agency has a little more focus on it,” Joerger said. “It’s how we execute free agency, how we execute our draft picks and how we execute at the trade deadline as this thing builds.”

To close out the interview, Joerger reaffirmed his patient stance.

“If you try to go too fast, then you can make mistakes,” said Joerger. “But I think slow and steady will win the race.”
