Closer Look: Zach Collins

Zach Collins earned four-consecutive state titles in Nevada’s high school play. Despite coming off the bench for his first three seasons at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, Collins started and starred in his final season in Vegas. The seven-footer averaged 17 points, 14 rebounds, six blocks and three assists en route to capturing Nevada’s Player of the Year award.

As a four-star recruit, Collins was pursued by notable colleges such as Gonzaga, California and UNLV. Eventually, the Nevada native chose the Zags, and with it, an opportunity to shine on college’s biggest stage.

Seeing limited minutes for most of the collegiate season, the 19-year-old produced at high levels on both ends. In 17 minutes per game, Zach averaged 10 points and nearly six rebounds while boasting a 65-percent field goal percentage. Most impressively came the freshman center’s streak to end the NCAA tournament – where he posted 14-point, 13-rebound and six-block outing during the team’s Championship game run.

Collins’ ability to hit from beyond the arc (10-of-21), finish around the rim, rebound and defend are sure to be key in his pending NBA career.
