Bighorns Update: Heslip By the Numbers

Reno Bighorns guard Brady Heslip has caught the nation’s attention with his huge early season numbers and lights-out three-point shooting. Two games into the season the guard was even featured in the New York Times.

Get a closer numerical look at the Reno rookie’s first five games.

34.8

Points Per Game

Through five games, Heslip is averaging a league-leading 34.8 points per game (minimum three games). Which, at its current pace would set a league record. Manny Harris of the Los Angeles D-Fenders set the mark last year averaging a gaudy 31.6 points per game in 22 contests.

45

Three-Pointers Made

A key to the rookie’s success has been his ability to shoot the long ball. No. 7 has connected on 45 of his 75 three-point attempts this season – an eye-popping 60% - and is currently averaging nine made three’s per game. 45 is also his career-high for points scored in a game, a number that he may surpass again this season.

2.2

Steals Per Game

Heslip also ranks in the top 10 in steals per game this season, notching only 0.4 steals per game less than lockdown collegiate defender, Ohio State point guard Aaron Craft.

33.8

PER

The stat that measures a player’s efficiency rating has been a solid barometer for determining a player’s effectiveness. Ranking at No. 2 this season behind former Kings center Hassan Whiteside, Heslip is one of two guards in the top 10.

13

Three-Pointers Made

Brady set a NBA D-League record for three-pointers made in a game on Nov. 29 in Boise. Heslip previously held the all-time single game three-point record with 11 after breaking Troy Daniel’s record of 10 during the Bighorns home opener. Getting up an average of 15 three-pointers per game, the record may be one hot-shooting night of falling again.

107

Field Goals Attempted

If you looked at the he 6-foot-2 guard's shooting chart through five games it might look like a rainbow dot matrix. Although he has attempted 107 total shots through five games, 75 of those have come from beyond the arc. A number you would think ranks him at the top of the league in three-pointers attempted. However, Heslip currently ranks second in the category, trailing Rio Grande Valley's Akeem Richmond.
