2017 Draft Lottery Primer

The biggest moment of the young offseason will arrive Tuesday afternoon at the NBA Draft Lottery. The annual Draft Lottery includes 14 teams vying for the coveted first overall selection while the entire order of the Draft is determined.

Historically, Sacramento has not won a top three selection in the Draft Lottery since 1991 and has only ever secured the top spot in the Draft just once in 1989.

The Kings are hopeful they can end the drought of lottery luck this year and are currently slotted at the eighth and 10th positions. Those positions, however, could change based on varying factors, most importantly being how the ping pong balls bounce.

Below is a breakdown of where the team’s slated first round picks could potentially wind up:

8th pick:
1st Overall: 2.8%*
2nd Overall: 3.3%*
3rd Overall: 3.9%*
8th Overall: 72.5%
9th Overall: 16.8%
10th Overall: 8.0%
*Philadelphia owns the right to swap this pick for their own*

10th pick:
1st Overall: 1.1%*
2nd Overall: 1.3%*
3rd Overall: 1.6%*
10th Overall: 87.0%
11th Overall: 8.9%
12th Overall: 0.2%
*Pick conveyed to New Orleans if in Top 3 due to protections on the pick*
