Top Five Plays Of The Week – 12/08/14

Rowan Kavner

PLAYA VISTA, Calif. - It should be no surprise the Suns game that went to overtime dominated the week’s top five moments.

The Clippers had a lot to choose from with four games last week against the Suns, Pacers, Wizards and Bucks, beginning Dec. 8 against Phoenix. Here are the top five plays.

5. DeAndre Jordan doesn’t need to see the rim to finish the oop.

Head coach Doc Rivers has raved about Blake Griffin’s ability to pass. Early in the first quarter against the Bucks, Griffin dribbles from the top of the key and draws a double team. That leaves Jordan wide open under the rim, and he does the rest on the lob and backhanded finish.

4. Jared Cunningham beats the buzzer and draws the foul.

The Clippers needed every last point in a win against the Suns. They’ll take them any way they can, even inbounding from their own baseline with only 1.6 seconds left and heaving the ball down the court for Cunningham to send up a 3-point prayer. He hit, and he drew contact.

3. Jordan denies Alex Len.

Eric Bledsoe drives through the lane midway through the third quarter and finds Alex Len sitting, just waiting for the dish. Len had aspirations for a two-handed finish, but that wouldn’t happen in Jordan’s house, as Jordan’s third block of the night was his most superb.

2. Dr. J Approves Of Griffin’s high-flying dunk.

This play featured everything that makes the Clippers dangerous. A pick-and-roll leads to an open jumper from Griffin, who can’t connect. But Jordan swats the rebound back to keep the play alive. That leads to a give-and-go between Griffin and Matt Barnes. Griffin finishes with authority, and moments later Julius was shown giving Griffin some applause.

1. Griffin wins it from long range in overtime.

The No. 1 play wasn’t tough to choose. Sticking with the Suns, Blake Griffin takes the inbounds pass along the sideline, turns, steps back and connects from 3-point range for his first career game-winning buzzer-beater. It hit just about everything, but it bounced through the net, sending STAPLES Center into a frenzy.
