LOS ANGELES – As Paul Pierce walked through Dodger Stadium, pointing out memorabilia from Orel Hershiser and Fernando Valenzuela, the Inglewood native was soaking up the experience.

With his family there to support him, Pierce was on his way to throw out the first pitch at Tuesday night’s Dodgers game against the Athletics on Clippers Night at the ballpark.

“I grew up watching the Dodgers,” Pierce said. “I liked a lot of teams, though. I was a fan of the rivalry with the Dodgers and the Angels, of course the Oakland As. I actually watched the World Series when Kirk Gibson hit the home run. I remember that. I followed the Dodgers throughout the years, and they’ve got an exciting team this year.”

Pierce said he was nervous about throwing the first pitch. He’d done it before at Fenway Park, but he said he hadn’t thrown a baseball in a long time. Pierce added that he played three years of baseball, but he only pitched one time.

While he didn’t throw the high fastball he was expecting, Pierce enjoyed the experience, stood at the end of the Dodgers’ line during the national anthem, got to catch the game and expressed his excitement about being home in Los Angeles.

“It feels good,” Pierce said. “LA has a great fan base. Happy to be here at home with the Clippers. Hopefully we can do something special.”
