Injury Report: Farmar Sits, Douglas-Roberts Getting Closer

Rowan Kavner

PLAYA VISTA, Calif. – Jordan Farmar takes notes before every game on how he’s feeling. Those notes prior to Wednesday’s game against Orlando couldn’t have predicted what was to come.

Farmar wrote down that he was feeling well before that game. He ended up hurting his back, which kept him out Saturday against the Pelicans.

“I think it’s a small strain,” Farmar said. “It’s like spraining your ankle but your back spasms around it to protect it and it just locks up and you can’t really do much. Kind of mix in some anti-inflammatories to kind of calm it down and treatment, loosen everything else around it so there’s no tension on the area. It’ll just calm down when it’s ready to.”

Farmar, Chris Douglas-Roberts (Achilles) and Reggie Bullock (ankle) all missed Saturday’s game in a win. Farmar had dealt with back pain in the preseason as well, but he said this pain is “a little different” from the previous one.

“It’s on the other side,” Farmar said. “But I think I’ll be OK. I don’t think it’ll be too long. We got on top of it right away. I got right out the game as soon as I felt it.”

Farmar said prior to this last injury, he wasn’t thinking about the back pain from the preseason and was feeling good. He’s day-to-day with the injury and hopes he won’t be out long.

“I’ve been making a lot of progress. It’s been a couple days since it’s happened,” Farmar said Saturday night. “Hopefully that’ll just be what it is.”

As for Douglas-Roberts, the Clippers forward got back on the court briefly during Friday’s practice but wasn’t able to play in Saturday’s game. He’s been out since Nov. 5 dealing with a strained Achilles.

“Now we’re just in the stage of getting back in the groove,” Douglas-Roberts said. “I have to start doing 1-on-1s, 2-on-2s. It’s hard to really practice that much because we’re in season. So I have to kind of do this kind of stuff on my own where I’m testing it out and seeing exactly where I’m at as far as actually playing in a real game.”

Douglas-Roberts said no concrete timetable had been discussed by Saturday for his return. He’s in constant discussions with the staff to see how his progress is going. He’s finally able to do things laterally on his foot and get back into game mode, even if there’s still some pain in the area.

He described it as “still pretty fresh for an Achilles injury.”
