Prep Classes

Come and learn the style and choreography performed by the Zyia Active Jazz Dancers. At the end of each class, participants will work out and have an open Q & A session about tryouts and what to expect as a Zyia Active Jazz Dancer. You must pre-register to save your spot.

Schedule:

JUNE 17, SATURDAY

  • First and second cuts
  • Registration opens at 8:00am, auditions start promptly at 9:00am *Pre-registration is strongly encouraged
  • Takes place at Vivint Arena. Please enter through main doors (Northeast corner)
  • Semi - Finalist headshots will be taken in business professional attire.  Please bring your change of clothes

JUNE 19, MONDAY

  • Semi-finalists will learn additional choreography and workout at Vivint Arena from 6:00–9:00pm.

JUNE 20, TUESDAY

  • Finalists will be selected and announced.
  • Finalists will learn additional choreography and workout at Vivint Arena from 6:00-9:00pm.

JUNE 22, THURSDAY

  • Individual interviews will be scheduled and conducted at Vivint Arena
  • Final performance round
  • Final members of the 2023-24 Utah Jazz Dancers will be announced

JUNE 23, FRIDAY

  • Mandatory Team Meeting. Time TBD

Note: Parking is available in the Northeast corner. East of the KSL building. Auditions will NOT be open to the public to watch.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age by June 22nd, 2023. 
  • High school graduate

Attire:

  • Half-tops or sports bras/ tanks or t-shirts for men
  • Non-marking dance or athletic shoes
  • Performance-ready hair and make-up
  • Attire for interviews is business professional dress

What to expect as a member of the Utah Jazz Dance team:

The 2023-24 Zyia Active Utah Jazz Dancers is a co-ed team that will perform at all Utah Jazz home games. Performances at select Salt Lake City Stars games will be required. You will also be required to perform at special appearances throughout the NBA season & off-season. The primary style of dance is hip hop and jazz with higher levels of technique required. Rehearsals will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, as well as additional nights when necessary. Call time on game days is 3:00 pm.THIS IS A MAJOR TIME COMMITMENT!

  • Mandatory Summer League: July 3rd, 5th, 6th
  • Mandatory Rookie Bootcamp: August 8th, 9th, 10th
  • Regular practice will begin August 15th. All practices in August are mandatory

FAQ's

Do the Jazz dancers get paid?

Yes, this is a paid position.

What can I do to be more prepared?

Attend the prep classes. Each prep class will be new material. Workout and properly fuel your body. You'll want to feel your best and be able to keep up with the choreography and workouts.

Will the program be the same as last year?

There is always some change from year to year.

Can I have another job while being a Utah Jazz dancer?

Yes, most dancers are students or have other jobs. You can schedule your appearances around your job or school but must make arrangements with your employer to attend every practice and home game.

Do returning dancers have to audition again?

Yes.

Do dancers dance at away games?

No, just home games.

If I make the team, when do rehearsals start?

We start rehearsing in August and continue throughout the NBA season.

What will I be judged on?

The biggest criteria is choreography, but also personality, athletic ability, poise and work ethic.
